Secrets of Gambling OnlineGambling is as old as sin itself although I am not convinced that gambling is a sin. I guess that depends on what religion you belong to. But gambling has been around for a long, long time. Online gambling hasn't been around that long, though. Maybe going on 20 years or something like that you have had the chance to gamble on the Internet. And I suppose there were dialup gambling operations in the 1980s before people jumped onto the Internet. I have heard that some people cheat the online games with fake player accounts. In 2005 Slate ran an article about cheating in online poker. I think the takeaway here is that even though millions of online poker players are sincere, there will always be people trying to cheat in the game; and that's true in offline poker, too. So along with gambling the sin of cheating has been around since time out of mind. Some people just can't stand to lose fairly. I don't know enough about online gambling to have an opinion on which sites you can trust to keep their players honest. I think that is why so many people turn to gambling site reviews to figure out which services are most likely to keep the games clean. But what do you do if the reviewers are not honest? On the one hand, if you're publishing gambling site reviews and making money off of referrals, I should think you would want to keep your reviews honest so that people recommend your reviews to their friends. On the other hand, I can see how if a site hasn't been around long maybe it's just a new scam site. About the only reliable way to sort the liars from the honest people is to just watch them all. Over time the liars will reveal themselves and people will out them on forums and blogs. You can be sure that if you get caught cheating or scamming people, especially when they are putting down their money, they will let the world know about you. Then again, you can probably find some free slot machine Websites or fake money poker games. At least that way if anyone cheats you won't lose any money. But it just doesn't feel the same when you don't have a chance to win big, does it? Like the old guy at the race track used to say to my granddad, "Bill! You can't make 'em win the race. You place your bet and you let the horses figure it out." | |
